Tropical Open House architecture separates the ground floor, raised building with a living room, as well as a master bedroom on the first floor and bedrooms for three children on the second floor. The composition was designed by designing several small landscapes based on the views from each intimate space, in this way the heat is reduced by facing the openings to the north south side while opening the skylights and windows to let in air and light. The house has one reception area so there are no more dividing walls on the first floor, namely the living room.

In the living room, the kitchen also takes some importance. The final layout was the result of several adjustments based on the owner’s household habits. The only closed room on the second floor is Wirawan’s study which also functions as a library and a space to reminisce about his family’s memories. A simple foyer and lighting are integrated with the staircase, and artwork is placed after the reception area. The second floor houses private rooms. At the end of the corridor there are 2 daughter’s bedrooms which are equipped with a bathroom suite and walk-in closet.

The additional bedroom, bathroom and function room are connected by a corridor leading to an open space next to a void that leads to the staircase and stair case, a beautiful arc to unite horizontal and vertical circulation. This project installs rainwater harvesting and reuses it in water landscaping. Although rainwater collection is increasingly common in some countries, it is still a rare and extraordinary facility in Indonesia, which is what this project is determined to have in this home. Attention to the play of light and shadow, created through the combination of materials and artificial and natural light is fundamental to the design of the house and evokes the tranquillity of the home.
